A Few Notes:

1. Grade levels are based on the grade that your child will be in the Fall of 2024.

2. It is very helpful if you can register by the end of May. Camps may be canceled after that due to low enrollment.

3. Please contact Makenna Hoekstra ([email protected]) if your child has any specific medical or special needs that we should be aware of. Zeeland Christian is an inclusive community and desires to include all students to the greatest extent possible.

Academic Camps/Opportunities

  • Stop by school Wednesday mornings with Kelli Boerkoel between 9:00-10:00 to pick up books that are a good fit for your child to enjoy at home!

  • July 8-12 from 8:30-12:00 with Bob Hazen.
Algebra is THE gateway to every higher math or science course that even a 3rd-4th grader will take - so turn your child ON to math, long before a typical Algebra-1 class! SAI provides a solid, lasting preview of foundational algebra topics (variables, powers, algebraic factoring, & prime numbers), while connecting with basic facts and arithmetic. In SAI, we use color, size, shape, texture, music, movement, hands-on activities, & fun games - all so that foundational algebra concepts are embedded deeply in student minds. SAI course material is designed so that students with a wide range of math abilities have done well in SAI. While gifted students have benefitted from SAI, students who are average and even struggling with math have also been successful in SAI.
See our Q&A page at www.algebraforkids.com/sai-faqs/ for more information about SAI.

  • July 22-26 from 8:30-12:00 with Bob Hazen. The SAI Advanced session is for SAI students who have already attended SAI 567, and for non-SAI students in grades 5-6-7-8 who would like a solid preview of Alg.1 topics (polynomial operations; binomial and quadratic factoring; exponential equations and equivalent radical equations; and a math game that has been called "the Porsche of math games").

  • Writing and/or Reading grades K-2 Spanish or English. Email for scheduling at [email protected]
Payment vouchers can be purchased in the ZCS office for $30/hour (purchased in 30 minute blocks).

  • Reading/Literacy grades 1-6 with Brenda Munro on Tuesdays. I use the Barton Reading and Spelling System. It is a proven, structured, and multi-sensory approach. I love the Barton System because it breaks our language into understandable chunks for students who struggle with reading by understanding rules of spelling and reading and not having to memorize or guess.

Motor skills may influence cognitive skills. By building motor skills we are developing an improved platform of academic success. We incorporate motor skills development in our tutoring program as this improves activities such as writing, playing, organizing, executive reasoning.
Tutoring sessions are 50 minutes long, 10 minutes of each session include a question and wrap up with parents. This program includes some activities for the home. This is of importance due to the fact that practicing new skills is imperative for becoming a lifelong skill. Brenda is also the owner of Motus and Learning. To schedule, email Brenda at [email protected] or fill out the following form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1-vUmcaJFau7ccV3AefHUACfr__zqPomtKtg8MtvU_B4/viewform?edit_requested=true
